WHERENET TECHNOLOGY RECOGNIZED FOR PROVIDING SUPPLY CHAIN INNOVATION AND SUCCESS BY FOUR LEADING PUBLICATIONS

Supply Chain Systems, Frontline Solutions, Start, and Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies Salute WhereNet and NYK Logistics; Cite Dramatic Productivity Gains, Quick ROI from WhereNet’s Active RFID-Based Real-Time Locating System Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Oct. 26, 2004—WhereNet Corp., the leader of wireless solutions for tracking and managing enterprise assets, announced today that two leading magazines selected WhereNet in conjunction with one of its customers, NYK Logistics, as winner of each magazine’s annual award for supply chain innovation. Supply Chain Systems magazine recognized NYK Logistics/WhereNet as Supply Chain Innovators for 2004, while Frontline Solutions magazine honored the two companies as a winner of its 2004 Supply Chain Superstars award. In addition, WhereNet was also named one of Start magazine’s Hottest Companies of 2004 and one of Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies’ 100 Great Supply Chain Partners.

In its October issue, Supply Chain Systems recognized third-party logistics provider NYK Logistics for its innovative use of the WhereNet® rules-based WhereSoft™ yard management software, which is bolstered by active radio frequency identification (RFID)-based real-time locating system (RTLS) technology. This marks the fourth consecutive year that WhereNet has received this prestigious industry award. Nominations for the award were reviewed by several analysts at AMR Research, and then voted on by Supply Chain Systems’ editors.

“When we select the Supply Chain Innovators, the editors of Supply Chain Systems magazine look for companies that have successfully implemented complete systems consisting of supply chain management software and hardware, as well as changes in company processes,” explained David Andrews, editorial director of the magazine. “Before implementing the Yard Management System from WhereNet, NYK Logistics relied on ‘homegrown’ software coupled with extensive manual labor in which employees tried to use clipboards, paper, and walkie-talkies to manage their constantly changing and busy yard. WhereNet’s wireless-based real-time locating system and yard management software completely transformed NYK Logistics’ operations, resulting in lower costs, lower inventory, faster turnaround, and accurate location information about containers and trailers.”

WhereNet Awarded Superstar Status for Second Year in a Row
For the second year running, Frontline Solutions has designated a WhereNet customer as a Supply Chain Superstar for using automated data collection (ADC) technology — including RFID — and software to remake and tailor supply chain processes to their company’s needs. According to Frontline Solutions, NYK Logistics has “eliminated manual yard searches and inventory data collection. With yard workers using handheld devices and ruggedized tablet PCs mounted in hostler tractors, gate personnel and hostler productivity has improved by 50 percent. Domestic turn times have been reduced by four hours, and nearly all communications related to yard tractor dispatches and trailer status updates have been eliminated.” When you add up all of the operational benefits, NYK Logistics achieved a complete return on its WhereNet investment in less than nine months.

WhereNet Named Hottest Company and Top 100 Great Supply Chain Partner
In its July issue, Start magazine named WhereNet one of the Hottest Companies of 2004, based on the company’s growth record for the last three years, accomplishments in the past year, and its unique product and services.

In addition, Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies selected WhereNet as one of the Top 100 Great Supply Chain Partners. The 100 Great Supply Chain Partners list is the result of a six-month poll of the magazine’s readers in which logistics and supply chain professionals nominated vendors and service providers whose technology, logistics, transportation, or consulting solutions have made a significant impact on their company’s efficiency, customer service, and overall supply chain performance. This year, the readers nominated more than 500 vendors and service providers.

“Our customers turn to us to help solve very complex supply chain problems to improve their business. These awards further demonstrate the value we are delivering to the market, as they are all based on customer successes realized through the application of our technology,” said Dan Doles, president and CEO of WhereNet Corp. “By enabling companies to quickly improve efficiencies, increase throughput, reduce costs, and enhance service levels across the supply network, WhereNet consistently delivers a rapid time to benefit of about 90 days and a complete ROI in less than one year.”
